Hello all,
Today we spent most of the day on a Jitsi call with the community going over the state of the release, in particular the ppc64le bugs that we have been fighting. You can view the minutes/notes I took during this call here[1].
Of note, we have made the decision to hold back the ppc64le content until we are able to isolate and fix the bug[2] with python3.9 that we uncovered. The ppc64le directories have been kept locked down and should be hidden from users.
Rocky 9.2 for aarch64, s390x, and x86_64 will be released at 14:00 UTC, in approximately 8 (eight) hours. At this time we will make public our release notes, update our website, and change the symlink for 9 to point to 9.2.
Lastly, please read the following statement which will be present in our release notes for Rocky 9.2.
``` During the testing of Rocky Linux 9.2 for Power (Little Endian) AKA ppc64le, the Rocky Release Engineering and Testing teams identified an serious issue with the version of python3.9 bundled with release 9.2 of RHEL and Rocky Linux that is considered a Release Blocker per our policies.
Due to the nature of this bug and the potential it has to break existing installations of Rocky Linux on Power, we have made the decision as a community to hold back only the ppc64le architecture for Rocky Linux 9.2 and release the other three architectures as they have passed our testing procedures and met criteria. Notably, we have not been able to reproduce the python3.9 bug on any other architecture (x86_64, aarch64, or s390x), and believe that the bug is architecture specific.
rhbz#2203919[2] has been opened to track this bug that exists in CentOS Stream 9 and RHEL 9, in addition to Rocky 9. ```
Again, we appreciate your continued support of Rocky Linux, and if there is anything we can do, please reach out.
Best, Neil
Hello.
During our final testing, we have found issues with one of our architectures (ppc64le). Due to some time constraints in our respective time zones, we won't be able to resolve this issue in a timely manner to do any bitflipping for our release. This does not mean the content will disappear from your mirror. They will remain locked until we have isolated the issue and reissued fixed builds of powerpc content if necessary. In the event there are fixes, you will be able to sync them normally from our msync endpoint.
Thank you so much for your support of Rocky Linux. If there is anything you need or if you feel you may be able to provide support or help to resolve the issues we're facing, please let us know by reaching out directly or joining our mattermost if you haven't already.
Hello all,
We are pleased to announce that Rocky Linux 9.2 is available for mirrors to sync from our mirror nodes in the US and Germany.
US: msync.rockylinux.org EU: fra.msync.rockylinux.org
Please note the fra nodes have a different rsync module layout which will be standardized in a future release. If you have already been using the frankfurt node, there is nothing you need to change.
The artifacts available to mirrors are to be kept from the public in accordance with our bitflip procedure until the release has been thoroughly tested. If all goes well with tests, we intend to perform the bitflip (and release Rocky 9.2) on Monday during US business hours (East Coast). If anything changes to this affect, I will send a follow up email.
Thank you very much for your continued support of Rocky Linux. If there is anything you need, please do not hesitate to reach out directly or via the mirrors list.
